The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) has received its largest and longest sponsorship to date, after it announced a five-year partnership with local telecommunications company SingTel on Friday.

The deal will see SingTel offer cash sponsorships to a select group of athletes. Athletes competing at the London Olympics in July 2012 will also each receive a smartphone with complimentary talk time and data usage.

Said SNOC secretary general Chris Chan: ‘We are delighted to have SingTel back on board (after the partnership during the Youth Olympic Games), supporting Team Singapore at the Olympic Games. Companies like SingTel are well-positioned to create engaging activities and generate excitement around sports and our sporting achievements which in turn, create an eco-system that is important for the growth and development of our athletes.’

Shooter Jasmine Ser and swimmer Tao Li are two of a group of about five athletes that are selected each year to be SingTel’s partner athletes. Mr Chan added that SNOC is hoping to add more young athletes to that list soon.
