2nd Asian Youth Games Nanjing 2013

The Singapore National Olympic Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Sharon Tan Paey Fern as Chef de Mission of the Singapore Contingent to the 2nd Asian Youth Games Nanjing 2013.

Ms Tan, a well known Table Tennis player in her days, is an Olympian having participated at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games as well as ten SEA Games, three Asian Games and three Commonwealth Games between 1991 and 2007. She was awarded the SNOC Meritorious Awards (Individual) in 1996, 2000, 2002 and 2004.

She ended her career as a Table Tennis player in 2008 and is currently assistant coach of the Singapore Table Tennis Youth Team.

Ms Tan’s first official engagement as Chef de Mission was attending the 2nd Asian Youth Games Nanjing 2013 Chefs de Mission Seminar that was held from Thursday to Friday (17-18 January 2013) in the Chinese city.

Paey Fern started her playing career in 1985 as a member of the Singapore Youth Table Tennis team and retired in 2008 with her career best ranking of 6th in the ITTF world ranking list for singles players.

From 1991-2008 Paey Fern represented Singapore in numerous Games and World Championships such as the 2006 Athens Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, SEA Games, World Women’s Cup amongst others.

For her outstanding and illustrious achievements Paey Fern was awarded the SNOC Meritorious Award (individual) in 1996, 2000, 2002 and 2004.

After retiring as a competitive player in 2008 she turned to coaching and is currently assistant coach of the Singapore Table Tennis Youth team.
