The Singapore Olympic Foundation invites aspiring athletes to apply for the Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship from 4 to 29 January 2016 via the Singapore Olympic Foundation website, www.sof.sg
The Scholarship was started in 2010 when businessman and philanthropist Mr Peter Lim donated $10 million to the Singapore Olympic Foundation (SOF) to set up a scholarship.
The Scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to young athletes from financially-challenged backgrounds to help facilitate their pursuits in sports excellence. The Scholarship also supports deserving under-18 high performance athletes who are on a high performance pathway and are training with the national youth or senior teams. So far, the Scholarship has awarded over $3.8 million dollars to close to 1,500 young aspiring athletes in Singapore.
Forty-one scholarship recipients, including Shanti Pereira (athletics), Wong Wei Long (basketball), Kimberly Lim (netball) and Vera Tan (wushu), won medals at the 28th SEA Games. Previous recipients such as Joseph Schooling and Quah Zheng Wen have both qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
