Victoria Chan Jing Hua
Sailing for only six years, 16 year-old Victoria Chan has already achieved some stunning successes at the world youth level. In 2006 she became the first Singaporean to win a World Championship in any of the Laser categories: she outperformed 87 other competitors to win the Laser 4.7 World Championship in France.
Victoria backed up this remarkable performance with a 4th-place showing at the ISAF Youth World Championships in the United Kingdom. At the Asia Pacific Laser Championship in 2006, she placed 8th among 30 sailors and earlier in the year, she took a bronze medal at the Australian Youth Championship.
With 2 more years of youth level competition ahead, Victoria is a rising star of Singapore’s youth sailors. Her placements in the international youth and open regattas clearly illustrate her potential to be competitive at the Olympic level in coming years. Victoria has committed herself to the task of chasing Olympic glory both in 2008 and in 2012 in the Laser Radial Class.
