Maximilian Soh Khyan Tat

Only 18 years old, sailor Maximilian Soh is a great asset for Singapore. A gold medal in the Laser class at the Asian Games in Doha in December 2006 is among his most recent achievements. He began sailing when he was 10 years old in the Optimist class and soon proved capable of producing strong results in other classes, too. He won the Australian Youth Championship in the Laser class in January 2005 in a field of 22 sailors

Over the past two years Maximilian has been performing exceptionally well in his transition to the Olympic Laser class with a 10th place at the ISAF Youth Worlds in 2005 followed by a gold medal at the SEA Games later that year.

In June 2006, he claimed a silver medal at the Asia Pacific Laser Championships. In August 2006 Maximilian placed 11th of 36 sailors in the Olympic Test Event in China, one of two qualifying races leading up to the 2008 Olympic Games. He is committed to 2008 in the Laser class and potentially 2012 as well.
