Yu Meng Yu

Yu Meng Yu belongs to the latest batch of table tennis talent in Singapore. The lanky 17 year-old player has displayed a maturity that is beyond her age. With determination burning in her eyes, she is set to make her mark in our sunny island.

Ranked an impressive 72nd in the world after just a few rounds of competitions at the international stage, Yu Meng Yu has been proving her potential to the nation. In her first ITTF Pro Tour tournament adorning the Singapore flag, she came in first in the Women’s Singles under 21 category. Coincidentally, this tournament was held in Singapore and spectators had a chance to witness their future sporting star.

In the ITTF Pro Tour Russia Open 2006, Yu Meng Yu’s perseverance and concentration paid off as she came in 3rd in the Women’s Singles under 21 category. She was also chosen to represent Singapore in the 20th Golden Racket Invitational Table Tennis Tournament 2006, where she helped bring back the Gold medal for the Women’s Team event.

In a game where perseverance, determination and mental discipline are crucial to succeeding, Yu Meng Yu will definitely be one to watch for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
