More information

Shuttler Derek Wong is a two-time Olympian. He took part in both the 2012 London Olympic Games as well as the subsequent 2016 Rio de Janeiro edition, finishing second in his group both times.

Derek was also Singapore’s flag bearer in 2016 and faced Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei during the group stages.

He was disappointed that his maiden Olympic outing ended after two games but leveraged the experience to give his competitive career a boost. In 2014, Derek won an individual silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. His contribution to Singapore’s mixed team also culminated in a team bronze medal.
