More information
Gopalan Ramakrishnan is a former Singaporean boxer. He competed at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics as part of the Malayan team.
Gopalan was a strong contender in the sport from a young age. By the age of 12, he had been competing in the Boys Club championships. Before the next decade, he earned a national title in the lightweight category.
Although he is only one of three Singaporean boxers to compete at the Olympics, he did not get to do so at the regional Southeast Asian Games. Although prepared for the 1963 edition in the lead-up to the Olympics, host Cambodia eventually pulled out of organising the event, while a motor accident in 1965 eliminated his chances of competing.
