LONDON 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES - CHEF DE MISSION

The Singapore National Olympic Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Jessie Phua as the Chef de Mission of the Singapore Contingent to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Jessie who is presently the President of the Singapore Bowling Federation as well President Federation Internationale des Quilleurs since 2007, was first elected as an NSA representative to the SNOC Council in 2004 by her fellow NSA delegates and has, since then, been re-elected every year. In 2009 she was the Chef de Mission of the Singapore Contingent to the SEA Games in Vientiane, Laos.

Her first official duty is attending the Chef de Mission Seminar in London from 9 to 12 August.

Mrs. Jessie Phua

Jessie PhuaThe first Singaporean and woman elected to head an International Federation, Mrs Jessie Phua has been President of the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs since 2007. She is also President of the Singapore Bowling Federation (SBF) and a Director of the Royal China at Raffles.

Mrs Phua has been a member of the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) since 2004. She was also a member of the Singapore Sports Council's (SSC) Women and Sports Group Committee, and Chairman of the SSC's Leadership in Sports Sub-committee. Adding to her accolades, Mrs Phua was a member of the Supervisory Panel of the Feedback Unit in the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) from 2005 to 2006. Mrs Phua served on the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Services Advisory Committee and the Sports Advisory Committee of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC). She sits on the Olympic Pathway Programme (OPP) Identification Sub-committee.

Mrs Phua's involvement with bowling dates back to 1994, when she was Chairman of the SBF's Youth Development Programme, and was elected Vice President of the SBF in 1995.

  • Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Sports Award In 2005, she was awarded the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Sports Award for her contributions to bowling. This award is conferred in recognition of significant contributions to Singapore in the fields of arts, culture and sports.

  • IOC Women and Sport Achievement Diploma In November 2010, Mrs. Jessie Phua was awarded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) "Women & Sport" Achievement Diploma. This was presented to Mrs. Phua by Mr. Ng Ser Miang, Vice President, International Olympic Committee and Singapore National Olympic Council.

    The Achievement Diplomas are awarded to promote the advancement of women in sport, recognising outstanding achievement and contributions made to develop, encourage and strengthen the participation of women and girls at all levels in the sports world.

  • Mort Luby Jr, WBW Distinguished Service Awardz Mrs. Jessie Phua was presented the Mort Luby Jr. WBW Distinguished Service Award during the Opening Ceremony of the V Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships held at Sunway Lagoon, Malaysia, for her contributions towards the Sport of Tenpin Bowling in her capacity as President, Federation Internationale des Quilleurs as well as Singapore Bowling Federation.

Mrs Phua had served in the Singapore Parliament, and was a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) from 2007 to mid-2009.
