Ladies and gentlemen
On behalf of the Organising Committee, welcome to the Singapore Sports Awards Ceremony and Dinner 2015.
Thank you for being here this evening to celebrate the achievements of our athletes, teams and officials in 2014. It was indeed a very busy 2014 for Team Singapore. Our athletes participated in three major Games among countless other sports competitions and returned home with very inspiring results. You our athletes, teams and officials have indeed made us all very proud.
Tonight, we will be announcing the winners of the 11 main awards, and also recognizing the meritorious awards recipients. The suspense element of the winner announcements remains at this year’s awards. Earlier in the year, the Selection Committees comprising representatives from the Singapore National Olympic Council, Sport Singapore and the media met, deliberated and voted for the winners via secret ballot. Auditing firm KPMG tallied the votes, and we will unveil the winners as this evening’s ceremony progresses.
Congratulations to all of our finalists, you have certainly set a very high benchmark for others to emulate. We hope you will continue to achieve excellence in your sporting careers and in the other areas of sporting endeavour which are being recognized. Enjoy the celebration we have organised for you tonight.
On behalf of the Singapore Sports Awards 2015 Organising Committee, I would also like to express my gratitude to the Tote Board family comprising Tote Board, Singapore Pools and Singapore Turf Club, Singapore Airlines, the National Sports Associations, and especially the teams from the Singapore National Olympic Council and Sport Singapore for making this evening’s celebration a special one as a tribute to those who dare to achieve.
My thanks would not be complete without a special mention of the members of the Organising Committee who despite the numerous demands of their role never failed to have a smile and a laugh ready for lighter moments.
And last but by no means least thanks to all athletes, officials, volunteers, families, friends and everyone else who played a role in Singapore’s sporting achievements of 2014.
And now ladies and gentlemen, please join me to welcome our Guest of Honour, Mr Tan Chuan-Jin on stage to deliver his speech.
