Ladies and gentlemen
Good evening. On behalf of the Organising Committee, I wish you a warm welcome to the Singapore Sports Awards Dinner 2014.
Tonight, we are all here with one common objective. We are here to celebrate sports. We are here to celebrate your achievements, your commitment to sports and your potential in achieving faster, higher and stronger records. As organising chairperson of tonight’s awards, I hope you will enjoy the celebrations we have planned for you.
The suspense element of revealing the winners remain at this year’s awards. Our selection committees from SNOC and SportSG have met, deliberated and voted the winners via secret ballot. Auditing firm KPMG tallied the votes, and we will unveil the winners as the ceremony progresses. Besides the award and entertainment, we also have a line-up of fabulous prizes from our sponsors to be given away at the lucky draw later tonight.
Last year, we witnessed many remarkable and inspiring performances and feats of our athletes. There will be more to come as our Team Singapore athletes represent our nation at the Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympic Games and Asian Games later this year, and prepare for the SEA Games to be held here at home next year.
Congratulations to all finalists, you have set a benchmark high in standards and I hope you will continue to aim high and be an inspiration for future generations of Singaporeans. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the countless unsung heroes behind our athletes. Please join me in thanking the key stakeholders: our committed and dedicated coaches, officials, administrators and volunteers; family members and friends; partners and sponsors; and sports fans and members of the media for your continued support.
On behalf of the Singapore Sports Awards 2014 Organising Committee, I would like also to express my gratitude to Tote Board, Singapore Pools, the National Sports Associations, and the teams at the Singapore National Olympic Council and Sport Singapore for making this evening a memorable one.
A special mention goes out to the Deputy Prime Minister Mr Teo Chee Hean, for gracing this special occasion as the Guest-of-Honour.
Thank you all.
Without further delay, ladies and gentlemen, please join me to welcome our Guest of Honour, Mr Teo Chee Hean on stage.
Mr Teo, please.
