Mr Tan Kian Chew
Athletes and Officials
Ladies and gentlemen
Congratulations to the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games contingent for an outstanding performance.
I had the opportunity to witness some of you compete both at the Asian Youth Games and Youth Olympic Games, meet the team and even try the Culture & Education Programme activities on offer.
I was very impressed and inspired by the camaraderie of the team, your tremendous fighting spirt, great resilience and mental fortitude to do your best in competition and your generosity in offering your friendship and support to each other. You have all made Singapore proud.
The Youth Olympic Games presents a very unique opportunity for young athletes to immerse in world-class competition, learn about different cultures and make new friends.
I hope you have all gained valuable lessons in your new experiences and maintained the close ties you have formed with your team mates.
I also had the opportunity to meet some of your most ardent supporters –family members who were there to support you. Besides them, we also have many supporters to thank. NTUC FairPrice Foundation is among one of them. They have been supporting young athletes since 2009, awarding medallists of Asian Youth Games and Youth Olympic Games with scholarships to pursue their academic and sports goals. I would like to NTUC FairPrice Foundation for their sponsorship. Like the MAP awards, athletes are able to enjoy these incentive programmes due to the generosity of the sponsors.
Enjoy yourselves today, I wish you success in your future endeavours.
