SINGAPORE, 17 January 2018 — Thomson Medical, one of Singapore’s leading private healthcare groups, today announced plans to support recipients of the Singapore Olympic Foundation (SOF)–Peter Lim Scholarship. The partnership will see around 1,000 athletes from the 2017-2019 batches benefit from sports medical services provided by Thomson Wellth Musculoskeletal Clinic.
Team Singapore’s impressive medal haul at the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur featured numerous past and current SOF-Peter Lim Scholarship recipients. While the national athletes may have access to sports medical support, the majority of the SOF-Peter Lim scholars are promising athletes who have yet to step up to the senior national teams. This partnership will see these athletes receiving sports medical support from the Thomson Wellth Musculoskeletal Clinic.
SOF-Peter Lim recipients who seek sport medical care and treatment at the Thomson Wellth Musculoskeletal Clinic, will be personally cared and treated by its Consultant Sports Medicine Physician, Dr Chiam Tut Fu. The recipients only need to pay a nominal fee for consultation or various non-invasive treatment modalities that relieve pain, accelerate healing and prevent the recurrences of sports injuries.
In the spirit of care, Thomson Medical is committed to support the SOF-Peter Lim recipients for life. From 2017, all SOF-Peter Lim recipients will receive lifetime membership to Thomson Medical’s Celebrating Life Loyalty Programme, currently only available to Thomson Medical patrons. Through this, the recipients can enjoy access to a comprehensive range of health and wellness services the Thomson Medical Group offers, well beyond their competitive sporting years.
Dr Chiam Tut Fu, Consultant Sports Medicine Physician of Thomson Wellth Musculoskeletal Clinic said, “As a former athlete and current fitness enthusiast, I am happy to support our Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship recipients and do my part for the sporting community in Singapore. Through this collaboration, I hope to introduce the latest treatment modalities in the field of sports medicine which are non-invasive, yet capable of accelerating the healing of musculoskeletal injuries, as well as prevent recurrences. Regardless of their chosen fields, I believe these considerations are most important to any athlete in need of recovery.”
“We are pleased to see more organisations such as Thomson Medical stepping forward to support local athletes with their resources and expertise. I am confident that the support from Thomson Medical will go a long way in helping our athletes achieve sporting excellence,” said Mr Chris Chan, Director of the SOF and Secretary-General of the Singapore National Olympic Council.
Said sprinter Kugapriya Chandran (19), “I have been very grateful for the generous financial support from Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship. When I was injured during my training recently, I had to spend quite a lot of on my treatment. I was worried that it would eat into the budget set aside for competitions and training. Knowing that my sports medical needs are taken care of by Thomson Medical is a huge relief and it will really allow me to focus on my training.”
Young athletes who are interested to apply for the 2018 SOF-Peter Lim Scholarship may now do so via their website at www.sof.sg before 31 January 2018, 4.00pm.
