Newly crowned Kings of Spain in the Copa Del Rey, Atlético Madrid, visited Singapore last week to join 130 young athletes representing the Singapore Olympic Foundation (SOF) in a charity football match in Singapore. The Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Charity Cup raised $780,000 for the SOF-Peter Lim Scholarship, a scholarship that helps promising young athletes achieve their goals in sports excellence.
The three-day tour of Atlético Madrid included activities such as football clinics conducted by the club’s footballers for aspiring footballers from primary and secondary schools across Singapore. Hola Singapore!, a cultural awareness activity, gave young Singaporeans the opportunity to learn more about the rich Spanish history and culture. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and the Spanish Club to provide outstanding young Singaporeans footballers and their coaches with opportunities to undergo attachment programmes with Atlético Madrid in Spain.
