More information
Dubbed ‘Twinkletoes’ for his skill as a forward, Singaporean Chia Boon Leong played for China at the 1948 Summer Olympics. Although his participation went against the Singapore football association rule that no player could compete abroad without prior approval, no action was taken as it was deemed a great honour.
Boon Leong was one of the starting eleven against Turkey in the first round of the tournament. The team lost 4-0.
