Vellupillai Devadas is a former national hockey player who represented Singapore at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games.

 

Described as “first and foremost a good cricketer” by Dr. B.K. Sen, the first chairman of the Singapore Sports Council, Vellupillai had moved to Singapore to pursue his dream of joining the police force. He also played cricket for the police force team.

 

The left half worked well with centre half Sinnadurai Vellupillai. During Singapore’s match against eventual gold medal winners India, they held the top team goalless for 20 minutes.
