More information

Zhang Xueling is a former national table tennis player who represented Singapore at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
Ranked world No. 47 before the Olympics, Xueling defeated the then-world No. 14, Korea’s Lee Eun Sil, in her first match. However, it was also matches against eventual silver medallists from Korea that knocked the paddler out of both her events, the women’s singles and women’s doubles.
Xueling continued competing internationally after her first and last Olympics. She scored four gold medals at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games, repeating this feat the next year at both the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships.
Though Xueling had initially hoped to settle down in Singapore, she left the team to join her husband in China. He died in 2008 in a car accident.
