SNOC New Executive Committee Elected

Singapore, 30 June 2014 – Minister for Manpower Mr Tan Chuan-Jin was voted unanimously as the President of the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) at the SNOC Annual General Meeting held at the Swissotel Merchant Court Hotel.

Mr Tan stood unopposed as Deputy Prime Minister Mr Teo Chee Hean stepped down from 20 years of service to SNOC (16 years as President since 1998, four years as Vice-President).

Four vice-presidents were elected to the Executive Committee unopposed, they were: Dr Tan Eng Liang, Mr Low Teo Ping, Ms Annabel Pennefather and Mrs Jessie Phua. Mr Ng Ser Miang stepped down as Vice-President but will remain in the Executive Committee in his capacity as a member of the International Olympic Committee.

Voting was conducted to determine the three NSA representatives as there were four nominees. The elected NSA representatives are: Mr Nick Fang (Modern Pentathlon), Dr Melanie Chew (Equestrian), and Mr Milan Kwee (Taekwondo).

Newcomer Mr Edwin Lee was elected unopposed as Treasurer taking over Mr Kua Hong Pak.

All council members, except the NSA representatives and Treasurer who will be elected annually, were elected to their posts for a four-year team.

After the AGM, the SNOC paid a tribute to DPM Teo with a special video with messages from athletes, and presented him with a photo book memento.
