The Queen’s Baton Relay for the Commonwealth Games 2014 in Glasgow was launched at Buckingham Palace on 9 October 2013, when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who is the Head of the Commonwealth, placed her message to the Commonwealth into the Baton.

The Baton will cover more than 118,000 miles over the following 288 days to Asia, Oceania, Africa, Americas (North & South), Caribbean before returning to Europe. The Baton will finish the journey at the Opening Ceremony of the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland on 23 July 2014.

The Baton arrived in Singapore on 24 October 2013 and was transported by the in-line skaters, cyclists, sailors, EAD runners on foot and wheelchairs, a convoy of Porsches and even on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), which constitutes part of Singapore’s public transport network. The Baton also visited landmarks such as the Marina Barrage, Garden by the Bay, the Raffles Hotel and ended at Queenstown Stadium on 25 Oct 2013 where members of the public were able to view the Baton before it left for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
