Singapore, 18 February 2025 – The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Mark Chay as its incoming Secretary General, effective 1 April 2025. He will succeed Mr Chris Chan, who will be retiring after more than two decades of dedicated service to the Olympic Movement.

Mr Chan has served as SNOC’s Secretary General since 2002, playing a pivotal role in strengthening support for athletes at major Games, advancing sports development, and elevating Singapore’s presence on the global sporting stage. His leadership has been instrumental in Singapore’s Olympic success, most notably at the 2008 Olympic Games, where the nation ended a 48-year medal drought.

Mr Chay, a former national swimmer and Olympian, brings extensive experience in both competitive sports and sports administration. Having represented Singapore at the Olympic, Asian, Southeast Asian, and Commonwealth Games, he understands the aspirations and challenges of athletes firsthand. Beyond his athletic career, he has demonstrated strong leadership in sports governance, serving as a Nominated Member of Parliament and chair of the SNOC Athletes’ Commission. He will step down from his current role as SNOC Vice-President to take on this new position.

“It is an honour to be appointed Secretary General of SNOC, and I am deeply grateful to Mr Chris Chan for his remarkable leadership and dedication to Singapore’s sporting fraternity over the past two decades. His contributions have laid a strong foundation for the Olympic Movement in Singapore, and I am committed to building on his legacy.

“Looking ahead, my focus will be on supporting our athletes in their pursuit of excellence, fostering a sporting community rooted in friendship and respect, and inspiring the next generation to dream big. I also believe in the importance of developing a strong pipeline of local sports administrators, equipping them to take on global roles and further strengthen Singapore’s presence on the international sports stage. By working closely with the sporting community, I look forward to advancing these efforts and celebrating the unifying and uplifting power of sport,” said Mr Chay on his appointment.

“We are deeply grateful for Chris Chan’s outstanding service to SNOC and Singapore sports. His leadership has shaped the sporting landscape in Singapore, and we extend our heartfelt appreciation for his dedication. As we look ahead, we are confident that Mark Chay’s experience, passion, and vision will further propel the Olympic Movement in Singapore and support our athletes in achieving sporting excellence,” said Ms. Grace Fu, President of SNOC.
