Nominations open for SNOC Athletes’ Commission 2022-2025

Nominations for the election of the SNOC Athletes’ Commission for the term of 2022-2025 term are now open till 24 June 2022.

Interested candidates can submit the completed nomination form (download here – SNOC AC 2022 – 2025 Nomination Form) via email to admin@snoc.org.sg

The list of the candidates seeking election will be published on the SNOC website on 1 July 2022. Athletes who have participated in the Hanoi 2021 SEA Games can vote from 1 – 8 July 2022.

The elected members will be announced no earlier than 15 July 2022.

Terms of Reference for SNOC Athletes’ Commission

1. Mission

The mission of the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) Athletes’ Commission (AC) is to represent the views of Singapore’s athletes within the SNOC.

2. Objectives

2.1. To consider all questions and matters related to athletes and advice the SNOC Executive Committee.

2.2. To represent the rights and interests of athletes and to make related recommendations.

2.3. To serve as a voice for athletes or their organisations (e.g. local chapter of the World Olympians Association) in the SNOC Executive Committee.

2.4. To advise and assist the SNOC Executive Committee and its Sub-committees in promoting Olympism, sporting excellence, fair play and athlete development.

2.5. To maintain contact with the IOC Athletes’ Commission.

3. Composition

3.1. The SNOC Athletes’ Commission shall comprise a Chair Person, Vice Chair Person, Honorary Secretary, and between two (2) to seven (7) other members. There shall be a minimum of five (5) members in total. The Chair Person should be of a member of the previous commission to carry on the goals and objectives of the previous Commission, if and where necessary.

3.2. All members (other than the Founding Members) are to be nominated by the National Sports Association, through election by their peers, and appointed by the SNOC Executive Committee.

3.3. To be eligible for nomination and appointment to the Athletes’ Commission, the candidate must be at least 16 years of age, be a Singaporean, must not have a criminal record, and have participated in at least one of the major Games, i.e. Olympic, Asian, Commonwealth, or Southeast Asian Games. Members must not have incurred any measure or sanction in relation to any violation of the Olympic Charter, the IOC or SNOC Code of Ethics, the World Anti-Doping Code or any other applicable regulations issued by the IOC, an IF or SNOC.

3.4. The term of office shall be four (4) years, with the new appointments being made within a year after each Summer Olympic Games. The term of office is renewable.

3.5. The Members of the SNOC Athletes’ Commission shall be eligible to be presented for re-election to the SNOC Athletes’ Commission, provided the conditions laid out by the SNOC are met.

3.6. The Commission may co-opt members based on its needs and the skill-set available. These co-opted members’ term of office shall comply with para 3.5, and they are not subject to paras 3.2 and 3.3.

4. Meetings of the Commission

4.1. The Commission meets at least once a year.

4.2. The SNOC is responsible for ensuring, within its means, that the Commission is able to meet.

4.3. The SNOC Secretariat will provide the necessary administrative support to the Commission.
